A fine win at home to Bishops Stortford since my last report was very rewarding indeed. Luckily for the Swans the Bishops Stortford penalty taker decided to aim for the corner flag rather than the goal when the score was 0-0 and we bounced back for yet another home win. I thought we gave a fair performance in the FA Trophy replay in the 2-0 defeat at Luton. With "only" 911 supporters scattered around the ground rather that their usual 6500+ for a conference premier league game - but nice for Staines fans and players to witness a game of football at a former top tier and football league cup winners ground - times have certainly changed for Luton. So Staines have lost their FA cup and FA trophy games to teams who have played Wembley cup finals so that does not sound to bad. We also fitted in our county cup game which took preference to the rearranged league game and needless to say the score was 0-0 after 90 minutes on a cold evening but won 1-0 in extra time - a mild evening and we would have won in 90 minutes! Back to league action at Eastbourne Borough where we played our usual away form with only one moment of joy it seemed with Jack Turners tremendous triple save - how many goalkeepers in the world would have kept three successive efforts away from the goal? A waterlogged pitch at Bishops Stortford - them again - prevented our first "double" of the season ! - so no game midweek - perhaps the players were extra fresh in the first half on Saturday at home to Dover as we went into half time 2-0 up...just about anyway...the half time whistle could not come quick enough - 2nd half we did not really perform and let the visitors into the game for a 2-2 draw. Perhaps if the game was 50 minutes each way we would have lost! So looking forward to the boxing day game at Maidenhead for hopefully our first plural away points. Then a home game v Sutton on Saturday before the bank holiday reverse local game this time at home to Maidenhead - so hopefully building up some points to take us into the play off positions...well, maybe. So hope all enjoy Christmas - it is only one day I have been told not six weeks - and best wishes for the new year. |
